Technical Discussion: Alginate
What's the best impression material for partial dentures?
L.T. Armstrong, DMD: Alginate. Properly used, alginate gives a sufficiently accurate impression for a Vitallium removable casting. It is best used by syringing a part of the mix around the abutment teeth. The material sets faster than crown & bridge impression material, so it is more comfortable for your patient. It is also much less expensive then any of the Polyvinyls available.
